Lady Phantoms have stepped up to win their last six out of seven league games to ensure they have a spot in the play offs this year with one game still to go.

Lady Phantoms hosted Aldworth Arrows Academy last night who put up 70 points in a scoring spree game against them back in November.

With our reigning MVP Jen injured and another key guard ,Leila arriving late to the game, the chosen 12 had to play well to secure a win (and that all important play off position). After a slow start to the game on both sides, ladies went on a 23-10 run in the 2nd quarter and didn't look back. Once the ladies had the lead, it kept growing and they took the win by a comfortable 12 points with Aldowrth only scoring 4 points in the final quarter despite pressing and chasing the lead.

Well done to the whole squad, especially all the newbies who have shown such improvement over the year and are now a key part of the player rotation. One regular season game against Yateley left who we have already beaten twice before we start the play off journey.

this one was probably the best yet...

Phantoms were on the road on Valentines day with a heavily depleted squad taking on the Woodley Thunder. With the previous encounter going Phantoms way by only three points, they knew this was going to be a close game.

This was a key game to win for the Phantoms to remain top of the league and to stay in contention to take the Division Two title although the start of the game didn't quite pan out as hoped. Woodley dominated from the start and at 15-0 Phantoms wee struggling to even structure any offence let alone put some points on the board. The first points finally came from Steeve at the free throw line but Phantoms looked like they'd left their game in Farnborough with the first quarter ending a dissapointing 23-6.

With pride at stake and a whole sideline of supporters that had travelled expecting big things, the Phantoms started to find their rhythm in the second quarter and finished the half with a more respectable score line.

With a switch in the defence after the half, Phantoms found their game and the Woodley team saw a massive lead dissapear very quickly. Phantoms were up three points in the final minute and Louis sank one of his free throws putting the game (and Woodley's title hopes) to bed.

Having already secured a play off spot and possibly even promotion, Phantoms host Hungerford next week at home in a must win game to keep Phantoms on course to win the Division Two title.

Phantoms travelled to Wellington College last night to face Aztec Lemmings in the first game back since the Christmas break. Phantoms had a depleted team due to work and other commitments but managed to come out on top with a 64-56 win.

The game was close till the fourth quarter where Phantoms started to pull away and at one point were 10 points up. Aztecs had a few good plays towards the end and opted for a full court press looking like they could threaten with 2 minutes to go but Phantoms held strong and played out the clock to win by 8 points.

Phantoms have a few training sessions tonight before going on the road again next Tuesday to play Hungerford.

Shadows started off 2016 with a big WIN - their first of the 15/16 season!

Travelling to Yateley Manor School on Sunday afternoon with a full squad, showing off their new club kit,. Shadows definitely TURNED UP to face local rivals Yateley Silverbacks Rise. With the previous meeting going Silverbacks way, Shadows were keen to show their improvement since the beginning of the season and were confident they could bag the win.

With around 9 of their players only joining this year and a change of coach, Shadows have had a tough start to the season not managing to claim that all important first win as a new team together but this game showed positivity, good rebounding and strong offence to give Shadows that all important 2 points to take them off the bottom of the division.

With a couple of training sessions before their next game on 29th January, away at Woking, Shadows have gained confidence and will look to take a few more wins before closing out the season at the end of February.

Our very own Martin D’Mellow, is coaching the men’s basketball team at the Farnborough College of Technology again this season and the team recently took part in a 3-on-3 college tournament. Below is the report on their performance:

FCOT Basketball dominant in 3-on-3

Farnborough College of Technology’s basketball team got off to a flyer with success in their first competition of the new academic year.

Basingstoke’s Queen Mary’s College hosted the November 12th ‘IM Basketball 3-on-3 tournament’, with 9 teams from five colleges competing: Farnborough College of Technology (2), Queen Mary’s College of Basingstoke (2), Sparsholt College of Winchester (2), Peter Simonds 6th Form College of Winchester (2) and Basingstoke College of Technology (1).

All teams played each other once in a round-robin style league and in what turned out to be a recreational tournament, Farnborough’s teams were dominant with team 2 finishing 3rd with 5 wins and team 1 finishing as the undefeated champions with a 100% win record of 8 wins.

It was a great achievement from the teams who had only had two practice sessions since the squad was selected going into the half term break. Coach Martin D’Mellow said ‘The squad is strong this season. I am excited to be coaching this group and as a team we are looking forward to playing a few more games and competitions throughout this academic year’.

Ladies played their season opener away against a new and unknown Reading Rockets team on Thursday night. Phantoms have suffered a few injuries and also have numerous new players so to start the season with a 7 point win with only 8 players (3 of which were playing in their first game) was the best start they could ask for. 1-0! Bring on the upcoming run of home games!

A big welcome to all our newbies!!!!
